Behind every client project at Think Tank, there’s a team keeping the business running. In this instalment of our behind-the-scenes series, we sat down with Allison from our HR team to find out what her role actually involves.
What Allison’s focused on right now
Right now, Allison’s focus is on bringing more of Think Tank’s HR functions in-house: payroll, training, recruitment, onboarding and the wider employee lifecycle. “It’s really about building a solid HR foundation that can grow with Think Tank as the company continues to expand,” she explains. For employees, that means the right support, training and information from day one. For the business, it means having the people, systems and processes in place to keep delivering for clients.
No two days look the same
Ask Allison what a typical day looks like and she’ll tell you there isn’t one. Payroll processing might take up the morning, followed by candidate interviews, onboarding a new starter, updating a policy, or helping an employee with a query. There is also a layer of work that is easy to miss from the outside: compliance, MICT SETA requirements and registrations, and keeping HR processes organised and running smoothly behind the scenes.
What she’s working towards
Looking ahead, Allison is focused on making Think Tank’s HR processes efficient, structured and scalable, so the business is set up for what’s next rather than constantly catching up. A big part of that is designing a smooth experience for employees, from recruitment and onboarding right through to training, development and day-to-day support.
The interesting part of the job
For Allison, one of the most interesting parts of the job is that there isn’t always an established process to fall back on. That means the opportunity to look honestly at what’s working, identify what needs to improve, and build something that fits the business as it actually is. “It can definitely be challenging at times, but it’s also rewarding because you can see the direct impact of the work you’re doing,” she says.
